So our little boy turned one this past month on July 12th. What a champ! Not to be a broken record, but I can't believe time passed so quickly! I can't imagine life before him. Glad he could be a cute additional to our wonderful family. We did have fun celebrating his birthday. We had just come back from our cruise in the nick of time. We were able to celebrate twice, kind of. We went down to Provo for a family dinner with James' mom and sister's family as a going away party for Matt and Stephanie. While there we just added on a birthday. We had a delicious dinner and then watched Finn first squish and then devour the cupcake that I made for him. He wasn't quite sure what to do with it at first but apparently a cupcake is fun to mush between your fingers. Eventually the deilicious gooeyness made it all the way into his mouth. After that there was no turning back. He successfully ate the entire thing - probably a good 300-400 calories worth of chocolate delight. He also got a nice birthday present from Grandma Palmer which will look so cute on him when he grows into it.
The second part of his birthday celebration came at Lagoon at our annual Korth family vacation. I was going to try to give him another cupcake but he seemed more interested in his cousins and the potato wedges so I didn't press him too hard (I didn't want to clean up the mess). But we spent the day going on rides and walking around the park. He was most happy about the train ride and the animals in the zoo. He did really well all day but I can't say that he loved the rides at this point. He looked a little confused about why I placed him on a seat and then walked away from him. Kinda sad but cute at the same time. Maybe next year he'll catch on to the magic of Lagoon!
So now just an update about our little dude. He's almost 13 months old as I write this and is as adorable as ever! He doesn't walk on his own but is cruising around everything and loves to walk around and up and down the stairs repeatedly while holding onto your hands. He's also turned into quite the daddy's boy lately. He tries to reach for James and when he gets safely there if I try to hug James he bats me away. Cute and sad at the same time, but I know he loves me too :-). He has successfully been weaned to whole milk but only will drink it first thing in the morning and just before bedtime. I hope he's getting enough of it! Mow to officially get rid of the bottle. Don't judge, I'm working on it! He's quite the fast crawler and can stand up from a sitting position without holding on to anything. He sometimes crawls with his hiney in the air like he's almost trying to walk. He can say bye and wave, loves playing peek-a-boo, loves cars and points at every one and makes a vroom vroom sound as he pushes them around the room. He can also kind of say duck and truck. Actually everything sounds like "uck" so we're not totally sure what he's saying. But when he sees a dog he also says oof oof. It's cute. Unfortunately for us he's becoming a picky eater. He LOVES carbs like noodles, rice, bread, crackers, etc. He also loves fruit. But no meats for him and not as willing to eat the baby food meals that I try to give him to make sure he's getting some kind of nutrition. He'd also be willing to eat yogurt all day. Last well child check he was still at 50% for height and now 30% for weight. So our little chunky monkey is slming down. Now this chunky monkey needs to get working harder at slimming down herself :-). Well, that's all I can remember for now.
Happy birthday my sweet little man! We love you!
